Why a good heel-first step matters in Parkinson’s
Parkinson’s often shortens the stride and softens the heel strike, so walking becomes a shuffle. Physiotherapists use external cues to help — and that is exactly what Heel2Toe automates, every step, all day.
An instant rewardLand a proper heel-first step and you hear a beep right away. That immediate feedback reinforces the movement — the basis of motor learning. |
Practice that follows you homeCues in the clinic fade between visits. Heel2Toe keeps the cue going during your daily walking, where the practice actually adds up. |
A few minutes a dayIn the trial, participants trained for short daily sessions. Simple, wearable, and made to fit into an ordinary walk. |
What the trial found
In a published pilot randomized trial, people with Parkinson’s who trained with Heel2Toe’s real-time feedback improved their 6-Minute Walk Test distance by an average of 66.4 metres, while a comparison group declined. Thirteen of fourteen participants improved, and most reported they were satisfied with the device.
This was a pilot and feasibility study — encouraging early evidence, and the reason larger studies are underway. We describe what the research shows and let the numbers speak.
